Magical Stories
Sentence Building
Games - Multiple ChoiceMagical Stories that Grow!
The stories in GrowStoryGrow are magical in so many ways...
1. The stories 'grow'! In other words, they have multiple levels of difficulty, each building on and adding to the previous level. The result is tangible progress, which instils confidence and a desire to read and learn!
2. Unlike any other language-learning programme, it focus on high frequency words. Did you know that 15 words make up about 25% of many languages? GrowStoryGrow focuses on these high frequency words and uses these to teach basic pronunciation, simple sentence-building and core language structures. This very simple but effective approach provides the learner with the tools they need to read and make their own sentences. And then... they're off!
3. The stories are beautifully produced with wonderful animations and sound effects to make your children gasp and giggle. Furthermore, they are entertainingly interactive. Press on the characters and watch them come alive!
4. Each story comes with a wealth of support materials: interactive games, downloadable books and flashcards, worksheets, masks and puppets.
5. The stories cover a vast array of themes and topics.
You can use the stories to teach different curriculum subjects:
- Literacy (traditional stories, sentence-building, knowledge of language)
- Science (The Solar System, The Plant Cycle, The Life Cycle)
- The Environment (Plastic Bags, Global Warming, Deforestation)
- History (The French Revolution, Guy Fawkes, The Olympic Games)
- R.E. (The Easter Story)
- Music (The Music Monster)
- P.S.E., Citizenship (The Wind and the Sun, Four Little Friends, A Dog is for Life)
- Healthy Living (Lunch Box, Health Food)
- Multi-cultural Links (Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves, The Great Wall of China, Chinese New Year, The Honeyguide’s Revenge, The Dreaming Tree, Indian Village)
Choice of Languages
Choose a languageAnother unique feature of GrowStoryGrow is that you can choose one or a combination of languages. For example, you can learn about The Solar System in English with a Mandarin translation, or you can learn about The French Revolution in French with a Spanish translation. You can hear a story in your own language first and then listen to it again in a foreign language. Or, you can choose not to have a translation at all and fully immerse yourself in the language.
Search
Search by criteria
You can search for an appropriate story using our filtering system. You can search by Title, Story Code, Difficulty, Animator, Topic, Series, Curriculum Link, QCA Scheme of Work, Curriculum for Excellence
Sentence-Building Tasks
Sentence Building TasksThe learning tasks have been developed to provide children with a step-by-step learning facility and are particularly useful for independent learning. Up to four words are learnt at any one time. These words and sentences have been taken from the context of the story and are (usually) of high frequency. The words are introduced in a sentence, learnt separately and then put back into the sentence so the children can then use these important words confidently to manipulate and formulate their own sentences.
Interactive Games
Interactive GamesThe games mirror the content of the stories and help the children learn in a non-threatening and simple fashion. The instant feedback and progressive steps make the games addictive and fun.

Downloadable Resources
Downloadable ResourcesThere are thousands of resources to download.
Lesson Plans
The lesson plans are written for the non-specialist but can also be used by an experienced teacher who is looking for imaginative ideas and resources. The plans provide the teacher with a framework on which to build his/her own personalised lesson. Because the stories are educational, they often provide a springboard for general discussion. This does not have to take place in the target language. Indeed, the lesson plans are not designed for full-immersion, and use of the mother tongue for explanations, introductions and discussion is perfectly acceptable.
The key is to introduce very small chunks of language at a time. Even just one word a lesson can be enough. Little but often! And build, build, build.
Scripts
Games - Noughts and CrossesThe scripts help you follow the progression and look closely at the language. You can make these into mini books. Watch the video here.
Books
We are an online publisher and do not have any paper books. You can download the story and make it into a book for your library. You can choose the language, a translation (if any), the colour and the level.
Mime Videos
Using mime is a very powerful way of learning a story and language in general. It makes it memorable and fun. Many of the stories have mimes to help you and your children learn the stories.
Story Boards
Story Boards are also a very powerful tool for helping you learn. Simple pictures can be used to play games such as Describe and Draw (one person says a sentence from the story, the other person draws it) or Draw and Describe (one person draws the sentence, the other person says the sentence). The key is to understand that you do not need to be able to draw to make a good Story Board!
Worksheets
There are many varied worksheets that go with each story. Many of the worksheets have been produced with the kind permission of TaskMagic3
Masks, Puppets, Stickers, Cut-outs
Every story has its own bank of these.
Certificates
Print out and collect your own certificates: Diamond, Gold, Silver and Bronze!
MP3s
You can download these and listen to them on your way to school.
